I was given this album as a Christmas gift in 1998. I’ve heard most of her other albums, but I have the most feeling for this album. Unlike the likes of her hugely successful "Time To Say Goodbye," "Eden," and "La Luna" albums, this one stands out as Sarah’s most "realistic" work: she co-wrote a lot of the songs here, and the selection jumps into so many different styles of music at once that it’s hard to determine the category to which it REALLY belongs. However, it’s an interesting mix. So much in fact that it makes even her most stunning album, "Time To Say Goodbye," rather second-rate. To answer your question about why "Time To Say Goodbye" appears here, on the re-release, it had been made as a tribute to Henri Maske. Its inclusion caused this album to reach #20-something on the German album charts, higher than "Timeless" ever had. But I love that single more than I ever did "A Question of Honour," which also appears on here and which was played on Sarah’s La Luna concert here in New York. I have to agree that QOH, which was also dedicated to Maske, is the standout on this album. It’s one of the few songs I could play over and over and over again and never get sick of it. There are some parts where the techno-disco influence REALLY starts kicking in, but the whole thing simply rocks. One song I can’t accept as appears on this "new" version is "How Can Heaven Love Me." The ORIGINAL version had the BEST version of HCHLM (namely the Album version), and FOR SHAME that it had to go out of print! And with good reason, too: the Video version that appears here is just like any other version but too walk-down-the-streets and no funk. The best thing about it is the high notes which she and Chris Thompson hit. I have the La Luna tour edition of this album that has the ORIGINAL version of "Fly" and previously unreleased "b-sides," but I can’t talk about that. I want to express my feelings toward this album, as I’ve felt the originality that’s hidden within it more than I can say for almost any other work of Sarah B’s. I think "Why" and "Something In The Air" really hit home. The latter is a duet with Tom Jones. It should be noted that a number of songs on Dive were also co-written by Sarah! The selection starts out very tribal-like and later moves into something that reminds me of "Captain Nemo," another selection from the "Dive" album. It also appears on the 4-track Time To Say Goodbye single (although not noted) as an Extended Version. Simply brilliant. And "I Loved You" reminds me of Janet Jackson’s "That’s The Way Love Goes," because of its beat. WHEW! I think I’ve said a mouthful about this. One bringdown, though, is the crude mixing, which can be a major distraction on certain tracks. But that doesn’t serve to do any harm to the album as a whole. It didn’t make me lose the interest I had in it. And Andrea Bocelli’s presence, albeit out of place on a "techno-industrial" album like this one, was well worth it. Buy it NOW!
